4 Reasons to Make a Weekend Trip to the Exploratorium!

Whether it's your first or hundredth time, this season we're giving you four extra reasons to visit the Exploratorium at Pier 15. It's the perfect time to make a day trip to the Embarcadero to take in the breathtaking views, peruse the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building, and check out the Exploratorium's weekend programs that will captivate the whole family.

  1. Saturday Cinema: Watch the ideas that animate the Exploratorium come alive on the cinematic screen. Pulled from the depths of our Cinema Arts collection, we carefully curate a program of fun, quirky films and animations that cater to kids of all ages, whether they're 3, 13 or 63. Get the whole family involved as active viewers and join the dialogue after the films to react and share your thoughts.
  2. Explorables: Ever wonder what to do with extra popsicle sticks? Obsolete CDs? Extra paper cups? In this hands-on, monthly program, use everyday materials to create models and other tools for exploring the world around us. As kids build fun creations, such as Paper Rockets or Popsicle Stick Harmonicas, they engage in open-ended investigations that allow them to follow their hunches to aha! moments of scientific insight. Although ideal for kids ages 4-12, these take-home projects are fun for all ages to experiment, explore and play.

  3. Full-Spectrum Science: Go through the depths of space, time and the universe in this dynamic series led by Exploratorium staff scientist and legend Ron Hipschman. With hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations, explore different aspects of physics that will have you examining the truths within science fiction, new ways to make colors, oohing and aahing over lasers, and more.
  4. Tactile Dome: Do you have what it takes to enter total darkness for an interactive adventure through our Tactile Dome? Crawl, slide, and bump your way through the pitch-dark Dome using your sense of touch as your only guide through its chambers. Be on the lookout for surprising textures and sounds. As long as you're over seven, you can test your fear of the dark in a safe space that is more exhilarating, than scary. Challenge accepted?
